I am sure that nobody can remember a single thing about what I wrote from Dubai last year although I did receive a considerable number of very nice comments and in some cases, compliments as well. It was very gratifying particularly as I truly write these posts for my own record having disposed of my quill pen and paper form of recording some number of years ago! In short, I reflected that 2016 was to be my Swan song and yet here I am in 2017 ready to hit the fairways again!
I blame Linda for encouraging me to do this but I also level some blame at myself for being so easily persuaded and for being so weak willed. It is a drug and I need to break myself of it, particularly after this year when on arrival, I discover Dubai has become drastically more expensive than it was even last year! All the friends I have made here over the years are in agreement with my view and believe that things will continue apace as the city raises the necessary capital to fund an ongoing building boom. It's quite remarkable to drive around the city and observe in isolation, the number of tower cranes that are in operation here. I don't believe that there is another sight like this anywhere on Earth but if you know differently then please let me know!
I have the good fortune of a daughter working for British Airways but I have also become a convert to Airbnb and having recently returned from two great experiences in Hawaii, I now appear to have fallen on my feet once more as I stay in a most beautiful property and location in the Green Community of Dubai. It really is green and quite stunning with lush vegetation everywhere and a complete lack of noise with the exception of the hum of the totally essential air conditioning. As I write this, it is hard to believe that I am surrounded by desert, industry and traffic on an epic scale!
Oh and one other thing, I find I have a truly excellent host in Susan who is Swiss, very successful and who I am likely not to meet again during the course of this week. Probably as well because this morning, I kept her talking for an hour beyond her planned departure from the house, regaling her with tales of Yorkshire, travel, golf and banking! I must be a very interesting character!! I think she was booking a flight out of the Middle East this evening with a plan to return when I leave!
Enough, enough. There might be more posts or there might be none and if there are more then they will be heavily weighted towards visual content rather than verbal although I can't totally promise that! Anyway, here are a few photos and any comments would be welcome, simply click on the comment button at the end of the post and write away.
